Rapid expansion of the PIR sensor market and the challenges in implementation
-
Empowering Energy Efficiency and
Decarbonization – The Glowing
Promise of PIR SensorsWith rising global demand for electricity and an uncertain energy supply chain, energy-efficient solutions have become essential. In product development, interest in pyroelectric infrared sensors is also growing due to their ability to improve the energy efficiency of equipment.
-
However, it can be demanding for
product developers…Traditionally, pyroelectric infrared sensors faced adoption hurdles due to labor-intensive aspects such as component integration and circuit design complexity.
-
Concerns over false alarm and
sensor failuresConventional pyroelectric infrared sensors have technical issues such as false alarm, which can cause user dissatisfaction.
PaPIRs solves challenges for product designers with its “compact size, high sensitivity, and high reliability.”
PaPIRs reduces circuit design effort and significantly shortens development time through its lens-integrated, ASIC-embedded, compact, low-power design. Its battery-powered operation also enables easy retrofitting into existing devices. Cumulative shipments exceeding 100 million units demonstrate why it remains the preferred choice.

Integrated lens structure simplifies design and assembly
The lens, element, and circuit are integrated into a single unit, eliminating the need for optical design and assembly. This reduces design man-hours and procurement parts.

PaPIRs+ Debuts — Reliable Detection with Fewer false alarm
PaPIRs+ significantly improves infrared absorption efficiency by enlarging the pyroelectric element and applying a black surface treatment, doubling the sensitivity compared to conventional models.
Compared to conventional high-sensitivity models (such as EKMC46*), it is less susceptible to noise, which significantly reduces the risk of false alarm.
This model is ideal for those currently using or considering PaPIRs who wish to detect micro-movements more reliably or reduce false alarms. It is also recommended for users of other sensor technologies seeking a balance between detection accuracy and cost.
PaPIRs+ is a next-generation pyroelectric infrared sensor that detects even the slightest human movements with greater stability and accuracy.

Three key Improvements in PaPIRs+
-
Detectable even at a 2°C
temperature difference.
Micro-motion detection capability
has been further enhanced. The detection sensitivity, which previously required a temperature difference of 4°C or more, has been improved to just 2°C with PaPIRs+. This makes it easier to detect even slight temperature differences, ensuring reliable response even during very slight movements or near-still states.
Note: Compared at the same sensing range
-
Detection range expanded by approximately 1.4 times.
Covers a wider area.Enhanced sensitivity and improved infrared absorption efficiency extend the detection range to approximately 1.4 times that of conventional models. This enables easier detection of movement in previously unreachable areas, significantly improving performance in larger spaces.
Note: Compared at the same temperature difference
-
Reduce false alarm in high-density detection areas.
Ensure noise-resistant, stable sensing.Enlarging the pyroelectric element and optimizing the design increase the density in the detection zone. Compared to conventional high-sensitivity models (ex. EKMC46*), PaPIRs+ is less susceptible to noise, which significantly reduces false alarm.
Note: Compared in the same environment
