FAQ0008 Does a conductive polymer tantalum solid capacitor (POSCAP) fail in short mode as an ordinary tantalum capacitor does?

Answer

The POSCAP or polymer tantalum solid capacitor is created by providing an ordinary tantalum capacitor with a polymeric electrolyte, which gives the POSCAP improved low-ESR and safety characteristics. Even if the POSCAP short-circuits due to overloading, the polymeric electrolyte executes its self-recovery (insulating) function to make ignition of the capacitor highly unlikely. More detailed information on the POSCAP is available in the technical guide, so please check it.
