May 31, 2011, Osaka, Japan-Panasonic Electronic Devices Co., Ltd. has succeeded in commercializing the surface-mount type “Specialty hybrid aluminum electrolytic-capacitor “,which combines the advantages of aluminum electrolytic capacitors and specialty hybrid aluminum electrolytic-capacitors as a capacitor for smoothing power supply used in DC-DC converter circuits and the switching power supply circuits, and will start mass production.

With compactness and higher-performance of a variety of devices, aluminum electrolytic capacitors used for smoothing the power supply have been strongly required to have low ESR characteristics (equivalent series resistance) as well as low leakage current properties. To meet the market demand, Panasonic Electronic Devices Co., Ltd. has developed a new hybrid technology employing new materials to commercialize "pecialty hybrid aluminum electrolytic-capacitor" ,which combines the low ESR characteristics equivalent to specialty polymer capacitors and the low leakage current characteristics equivalent to aluminum electrolytic capacitors. We will answer our customers' request.

Features

  1. Low ESR properties, contributing to downsizing and to reducing the weight of devices
    ESR: 40 to 150 mΩ(equivalent to specialty polymer capacitors)
    Reducing ESR approx. 50 to 90 % compared with aluminum electrolytic capacitors (*1), and also saving mounting space area to approx. 60 % in case of the same ESR (*2)
  2. Low leakage current properties, contributing to saving power and stabilizing operation
    Leakage current: less than 0.05 CV or 100 μA (*3) equivalent to aluminum electrolytic capacitors
    Approx. 75 % reduction compared with specialty polymer capacitors (*4)
  3. Long life, contributing to improving reliability of devices
    Life: 5000 hours at 105 °C
    Approx. 2.5 times improvement compared with our current models (*1)

Applications

Smoothing circuits used in DC/DC converter circuits and switching power supply circuits of digital devices, information-communication devices etc.
