    New Product
September 25, 2008, Osaka, Japan-Panasonic Electronic Devices Co., Ltd. has developed the speaker adopting "bamboo charcoal-resin diaphragm which is made by composing bamboo materials (bamboo charcoal and bamboo fiber) and resin", first in the industry (*1).
The natural bamboo materials (carbonized bamboo and bamboo fiber) are utilized as a diaphragm of the newly developed speakers, reproducing higher clearness and more natural sound quality than conventional speakers using resin diaphragm. Also, they are expected to produce finer sound, contributing to improving the sound quality of a variety of equipment.

    [Features]

1.The diaphragm is composed of bamboo materials (carbonized bamboo and bamboo fiber) and resin first in the industry (*1).

Specific Gravity: 10 to 15 % reduction compared with our current models (*2)
    (light weight)
Bending modulus of elasticity: Approx. 25 % improvement compared with our
    current models (high rigidity)

Speed of sound: Approx. 10 % improvement compared with our current models
    (expansion of reproduction range)

2.Reproducing high clearness and natural sound quality

Internal loss: Approx. 1.5 times improvement compared with our current models (*2)

    3.Excellently designable and high reliability

(*1) Our investigation of the diaphragm composed of the bamboo materials and resin as of September 25, 2008
(*2) Our current models: resin-diaphragm speaker adopting inorganic filler

    [Technology]
The newly developed speaker are utilizing the following technologies
    (1) The extruding technology uniformly dispersing and compounding bamboo materials into resin Uniformly dispersing bamboo materials in various states including carbonized bamboo, bamboo fiber into resin
    (2) Injection molding technology producing the thinnest diaphragm in the industry
Diaphragm thickness: 0.2 to 0.3 mm
(*3) Our investigation of the diaphragm fused resin and natural fiber as of September 25, 2008

    [Traditional diaphragm]
Traditional diaphragms have been inclined to produce uniform sound due to the properties of inorganic materials. In the market, resin diaphragm speakers have been required to reproduce natural sound quality as well as turbid-less and highly clear.

    [Commercialization]
Sample and production start: April 2009 (plan)
(supply in the form of speaker unit)

    [Price]
To be confirmed individually (depending on specifications and quantities)

    [Applications]
    Automotive applications, Thin display TVs

    [Patent information]
Six patents are pending (5 patents in Japan and one patent overseas)
