New Product
December 4, 2006, Osaka, Japan-Panasonic Electronic Devices Co., Ltd. in cooperation with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. has developed the thinner dynamic micro-speaker first in the world(*), which contributes to size reduction in the profile as well as the high-quality sound of mobile phones, mobile audio players etc.
This newly developed speaker has been achieved by adopting the quite new magnetic circuit structure completely different from the basic structure of the traditional dynamic speaker, and features thinner in the world (*) (in the height of 1.5 mm) keeping the acoustic performance. Introduction of this newly developed speaker will allow the thinner and the high-quality sound of devices at the same time, which has been difficult, resulting in advanced functions as well as high sound-quality of a variety of devices, and also contributing to improving design flexibility of them.

[Features]
  1. Thinner micro-speaker in the world(*)
Overall height: 1.5 mm (Approx. 45 % reduction compared with our current models)
  2. High-quality sound as well as low profile
    Output sound-pressure level: 85 dB
(same sound-pressure level as our current models with the overall height of 2.7 mm)

[Description]

We have succeeded in developing this new speaker by integrating the state of the art technologies as shown below.
1. Our original oblique-structure magnetic circuitry first in the world(*)
2. The CC (concavo-convex) diaphragm that is concavo-convex, which meets (1)
(Our investigation of the dynamic micro-speaker as of December 4, 2006)

[Traditional Systems]

As a variety of mobile devices have been thinner with multi functions, micro-speakers used for reproducing receiving-tone and sound effect have been increasingly required to become thinner as well as higher-quality sound. However, with respect to the thickness of dynamic micro-speakers, there has been a problem of limiting the thickness based on their structure as well as deteriorating the acoustic performance due to their low profile structure. Furthermore, although piezoelectric micro-speakers have an advantage of reducing their thickness, it has been difficult to reproduce the high-quality sound, and also with them, additional driver circuits are needed.
