March 29, 2006, Osaka, Japan-Panasonic Electronic Devices Co., Ltd. has developed the high sound-quality speaker adopting the 100%-banboo-fiber diaphragm, in partnership with Research and Development Center of Bamboo Resource, Doshisha University.
[Effect]
The newly developed speakers are expected to reproduce higher sound-quality than the speaker with the diaphragm using high-technology fiber, and to reproduce natural original sound. Since a bamboo growing up fast is used as raw materials for them, they are environmentally-friendly from the point of view of resources protection compared with the diaphragm using a high-grade wood pulp including a needle-leaf tree.

[Features]
  1. High sound quality by adopting the 100 %-bamboo-fiber diaphragm first in the industry(*1)
The speed of sound in the diaphragm materials achieves to 2,380 m/s (25 % improvement compared with our current models(*2)) which is fastest in the industry(*1) due to the proper internal loss, resulting in reproducing natural sound over the wider frequency range.
  2. Environmentally-friendly
Comprised of the bamboo-fiber grown up fast and continuously reproduced, which is a natural material.
  3. High-grade
Less-dispersion and high-grade speakers by adopting the bamboo-fiber excellent in dynamic properties
(*1)Our investigation of the diaphragm used in speakers as of March 29, 2006
(*2)Panasonic Electronic Devices Co., Ltd. speakers adopting the diaphragm using the high-grade wood pulp

[Description]
We have succeeded in developing the newly developed speaker by integrating the following technologies.
(1) "High-strength paper using the 100 % bamboo-fiber" developed by Research and Development Center of Bamboo Resource, Doshisha University.
* Achieving the high-strength and high-stiffness by pulp-forming the bamboo-fiber physical-mechanically, and further by making it ultra-fine
(2) Panasonic technology of "diaphragm forming" and "sound creating"
* Pulp-beating technology to increase interwinement of fiber
* Nano-hybrid technology to optimize the mutual co-hesiveness of the fiber
[Conventional technology]
High-technology fiber and high-grade wood pulp including a needle-leaf tree from north Europe have been adopted into the diaphragm to reproduce high sound-quality, since the strong and hard materials have been required. However, the diaphragm using the high-technology fiber has not created such sound-quality as natural materials produce, which is comfortable to the human ear. The natural fiber which is continuously reproduced has been required, since trees grown-up for a couple of 10 years are needed for the high-grade wood pulp.
